Hello, My name is Dalyn Pacheco-Smith. I received my degrees from University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and University of San Francisco. At the University of San Francisco, I earned my Master's in Counseling Psychology with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Marriage and Family Therapy. Working with and supporting the well-being of college students, both undergraduate and graduate, is a passion that I have worked toward and I am grateful for the opportunity to do so. In college, there are so many experiences, feelings, emotions, events, and stressors that occur. I strive to create a comfortable, attentive, and empathetic space for you to process these things. My name is Zena and I specialize in working with anxiety, self-esteem, interpersonal concerns, and life challenges/adjustments. I have a MA in counseling and a BS in psychology and over five years working as a therapist in various outpatient settings. My approach to therapy is integrative; I work from a client-centered/humanistic lens incorporating elements of psychodynamic, existential, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and compassion-focused. Therapy is collaborative, there is no one size fits all approach to therapy, therefore I tailor my approach based on the needs of the individual. I believe the most important element of therapy is the therapeutic relationship, therefore I aim to be open-minded and authentic in the therapy room. My goal is to help clients gain insight by providing a safe, non-judgemental environment that fosters acceptance while also encouraging clients to work toward their goals (e.g. balancing acceptance with change). My ideal client is someone who is curious, open-minded, and willing to explore new prescriptives and how past experiences might be impacting how we currently engage with ourselves, others, and in the world. Many of my clients report increased self-awareness, self-acceptance, and ability to understand, accept, and regulate their internal experiences. When I am not providing therapy, I enjoy being in nature/hiking, spending time with my family and cats, and watching horror movies.
Our practice Great Lakes Perinatal Wellness offers short-term (4 sessions) emergency services to help provide relief during the crisis that MSU students have been experiencing after the February 13 events. I specialize in working with sexuality, gender, and relationships through an anti oppressive attachment based lens. I am trained to work with couples/relationships and see many 2SLGBTQIA+ and non monogamous/polyamorous relationships. I provide Trans, Non-Binary, and Queer affirmative care. My training is in Marriage and Family Therapy, which basically means I have extensive training in working with more than one person in the room as well as considering relational context even when I am seeing an individual person. I practice relationship/marriage/premarital therapy through an attachment based lens and am trained in The Developmental Model of couples work. I have also completed Gottman Level 1 and incorporate that training when useful. I am trained in Brainspotting and find the clients seeking to process difficult experiences and/or move through areas in which they feel stuck benefit from this modality.
